Ryan Edwards

Ryan is a lively, energetic, hard working midfielder with great technique and good feet. He is preferably right footed but equally comfortable with his left. The versatile midfielder can play all across the midfield in central and wide positions. His best and most effective position is as an 8 or 10. He has phenomenal movement to find space and get on the ball, control the game with a keen eye to make a pass. His willingness to work positively and get around the pitch is a breath of fresh air.

Biography

A product of the famous Australian Institute of Sport, an organisation which also produced a certain Adam Federici – Ryan arrived at Madejski Stadium with his brother Cameron in May 2011.

Has been involved with his country at under 20 level and is the son of former Australian international and Perth Glory striker Alistair Edwards.

A talented midfielder – Edwards scored his first goal in Reading colours during a 7-0 pre-season win over Farnborough ahead of the 2011/12 campaign.

The youngster’s performances earned him a pro-contract ahead of the 2012/13 season, which he played regularly for club and country. Scoring and captained the Young Socceroos as they successfully qualified for the U20 World Cup in Turkey.

Ryan played 15 games for Australian side Perth Glory in 2013/14 before returning to Madejski Stadium for pre-season.
